Choosing the Foods for Your Wedding Reception

With food prices climbing higher these days, choosing a catering option that fits your budget can be difficult. Of course, the price can be seriously skewed by the selection of foods you provide for your guests. While it may be tempting to go for exotic options and palate testing dishes for your catering, the most successful (and most economical) catering options at a reception may be simple “comfort foods.”

Many caterers are opting to provide, and pushing their customers to choose, simple foods that people would feel fairly comfortable consuming. Chicken and beef dishes combined with mashed potatoes, corn, and other light vegetables are highly popular combinations for many weddings. Caterers are also doing away with providing massive amounts of appetizers for wedding receptions, cutting down on the amount of food wasted or ultimately taken home and thrown out.

If you’re budget conscious or know a few good cooks, a pot luck reception can also be a great way to add meal diversity at a low cost. Ask a few friends and family to make their best dishes and make them available for the guests. The cost may be little, but the food may very well be the hit of the reception.
