Silk Flowers Are Just As Pretty

To buy real, living flowers from a boutique for your wedding is so expensive these days – and how long will the flowers last; a week at the longest, maybe two with exquisite care. But who needs the real thing when there are so many types of silk arrangements available today at flower shops, gift stores and convenience stores all around the nation.

You can get a silk flower that mirrors nearly any other flower that one could grow from the ground – the same sizes and colors are all readily available, depending of course on the specific shop you are browsing. But with the use of the internet, you really can find any type of imitation with little to no problems at all.

Not only are the far less expensive than their living counterparts, silk imitation flowers will last forever – what a perfect way to keep your wedding memories alive for years to come. And while you are spending the greatest years of your life with your loved one you can decorate your house or bedroom with some of the pieces, as an everyday reminder of your love.

Origin of the Wedding Favor?

With the daughter of some good friends of mine getting married in just a few weeks, my friends (her parents) have been barraging me with questions.  I had agreed to step in as wedding planner and as my gift to the family I agreed to waive my fees.  But one question they asked actually had me stumped.  They wanted to know the origin of the wedding favor.

You see when they go married back in 1980, the tradition of wedding favors was not widespread.  At least not in the Midwest where they lived.  So now I’m to tell them when the tradition really started to pick up steem.  But to be honest, I’m not sure.  What I can tell you is that wedding favors have been an important part of wedding ceremonies and receptions for well over a decade.  But when they became commonplace?  That will require a bit of research.

Eco Friendly Wedding Dresses?

Now I thought that finding an eco friendly wedding dress would be harder than it actually was. Consider first, a very high thread count of Egyptian cotton. Overlay it with some refurbished silk lace (easier to find than you think) and carefully sow on some fresh water pearls. Fantastic!

Here’s another great wedding dress idea. Use silk that doesn’t kill the silk worm. You can find (you have to look a bit) for 100% organic peace silk organza. It’s important that it’s peace silk as that’s your guarantee that no worms gave their lives for your dress. Silk needs so little but consider an embellishment of hand stitched embroidery also of peace silk.

Finally, definitely not least and most economical is to use a used or borrowed dress. If you happen to be the same size (or close to) your mother’s size and liked her style, you can often have it just slightly updated and sized just for you for a very small investment. Now that’s a great idea and is eco friendly to boot!
